Event Details

The Georgia School Counselor Association (GSCA) would like to formally invite you to join us for the GSCA Day on the Hill at the Georgia State Capitol on Wednesday, February 6, 2019. The legislators wish to recognize you and the significant contributions you make to the success of all Georgia students. This event will provide an excellent opportunity to continue the conversation with legislators about the specific ways school counselors support students in their academic, career and social/emotional development and to advocate for comprehensive school counseling programs in Georgia schools.

We will hear from state legislators, learn about legislative initiatives affecting Georgia schools, and interact with the leaders of our state. Attendees will connect with Georgia Appleseed to learn about child welfare initiatives and the Georgia Department of Education regarding current perspectives of issues important to school counselors. The day will include a resolution recognizing National School Counselor Week by the House of Representatives and a proclamation signing by Governor Kemp honoring Georgia School Counselors and National School Counseling Week.

Georgia has a long history of award-winning school counselors and school counseling programs at State and National levels. We know how difficult it can be to leave your school building, however, your involvement in this event is important. Our legislators want to see and hear from you regarding the significant work you are doing at your schools with Georgia’s children. Please consider joining us. This event will certainly be valuable to you.

Our day will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. in room 605 in the Paul D Coverdell Legislative Office Building. We will conclude at approximately 12:00 p.m. after the signing of the proclamation.
