Mission First- The School Counselor's Role in Supporting Military-Connected
Event Details
There are approximately four million military-connected students in the United States – students whose parents are either active duty, reserve, National Guard or prior service members, and 80% of them attend K–12 public schools. Due to the transient nature of military service, many military families experience frequent changes and transitions. Although school counselors are uniquely trained to address the diverse needs of students from various backgrounds, many are not familiar with military life and culture. Learn about the unique cultural characteristics of military-connected students, identify distinct experiences military-connected students face, and share best practices to support military-connected students and their families within schools.
