Strengthen Support Systems for Military-Connected Students
Event Details
Military families experience frequent changes and transitions, which can adversely affect the academic achievement of military-connected students. When school counselors understand these students' specific needs, they can better support them and help them succeed. Awareness of the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children (ICEOMC) helps you support students experiencing learning loss or educational gaps resulting from transitions. Learn what ICEOMC is, who it covers and how it helps schools assist military-connected students. Because school counselors play a critical role in navigating credit transfers, course placement and other transition‑related challenges, confidence and familiarity with the ICEOMC is essential.
Learning Objectives
After viewing this webinar, you will be able to:
- Discuss the importance of the ICEOMC and how it can support you as you serve, directly or indirectly, the children of uniformed service members.
- Identify the unique challenges affecting children of service members and how ICEOMC can address both literal and perceived achievement gaps.
- Demonstrate, through real-life scenarios, the proper implementation of ICEOMC and how it supports school counselors’ work.
